Its name is Seashore Library and is located in China, a few kilometers from Beijing. The structure was designed by the Dong Gong of Vector Architects Studio and it has an area of 5,000 m2.
Located a few meters from the seashore, exactly 75, it is considered the most solitary library in the world because it offers refuge to all those who need, for a while, to move away from the metropolis and dedicate himself to reading or just for relax.
The structure consists of three main areas: the library, a relax and meditation area and a room for group activities, all strictly with a glass wall in front of the ocean.
The project of Vector Studio was inspired by the need to want the library interacted with the entire surrounding area, reviving that relationship with nature that the Chinese metropolis has lost because of his now unstoppable urbanization process.
The design of this building was chosen specifically minimal playing with walls, windows and cracks letting light and air pierce, drawing a lot of geometries forms. The brightness of the rooms devoted to reading contrasts with soft and relaxing atmosphere of the meditation rooms, as well as the other areas that are reserved for meetings and conferences.
Few and subtle peculiarities make the Seashore Library one of the most unique places in the world, thanks to its ability to estrange from the chaotic city life. The Seashore Library project won the title of Overall Winner, as well as the highest award of ArchMarathon Award in 2016.
